The PSOE will force its partners in the Cabildo to take a position on the Canary Islands Government's appeal against the REF ruling

The spokespersons of the PSOE in the Cabildo intend that the Island Corporation address the Government of the Canary Islands in the figure of its president, Adán Martín, so that he orders the "withdrawal of the appeal" that they are going to present against the ruling of the Superior Court of Justice of the Canary Islands in which the Executive is condemned to pay the amounts that it did not pay to the Cabildo in compensation for the disappearance of the APIC as well as the funds deducted from Lanzarote in the distribution of the REF of the year 2001, making them appear as management expenses.

In addition, the socialists want the Plenary of the Cabildo to agree to address the Government of the Canary Islands to convene "urgently" a meeting between technicians of both administrations to "fix the exact amounts owed" and proceed "to its immediate payment". Both requests will be sent to the Plenary of the Cabildo through a motion that will be presented in the next session to be held at the end of this month, and that will force the PSOE partners, Coalición Canaria and the former members of the PIL, to pronounce themselves.

The non-payment for more than four years of compensation for the reduction of the Arbitration on Production and Importation in the Canary Islands and the 8.8 million euros of the funds that belonged to the Cabildos and that the Government of the Canary Islands kept as collection expenses of the REF, in addition to the poor application of the population criterion to distribute the taxes collected proportionally, are for the Socialist Group an "affront and contempt to the First Institution of the island" committed by a superior administration "in theory sister" and do not hesitate to affirm that the Government for years "has been systematically marginalizing Lanzarote" in the general budgets of the Canary Islands.

The authors of the motion affirm that the Canarian Executive has violated the "principles of loyalty and inter-administrative cooperation" and that instead of recognizing "its error and paying" they intend to delay compliance with the ruling, that is, delay the payment to the Cabildo, through an appeal, a procedure that can be extended for more than four years.

The socialist party announces the motion only four days after Adán Martín confirmed that the legal services of the Autonomous Government "have the duty to appeal the issued ruling as the Cabildo appealed in its day" and affirmed that the figures that are being considered are not real, since according to him those 8.8 million euros with which the management expenses were "inflated", are actually 4.4 million, of which the Cabildo of Lanzarote would correspond to about 300,000 euros, when the Economy and Finance Commission of the Cabildo spoke of about 20 million euros that the Cabildo would receive.

The PIL demands explanations about the mismatch of figures

For its part, the Party of Independents of Lanzarote will raise before the Plenary of the Cabildo its doubts about the real figure that the Government of the Canary Islands owes to the island. The party will ask the Government Group if "it has demanded that President Martín deny his statements" about the confusion that according to Adán Martín is generating the Cabildo in the population of Lanzarote talking about 20 million euros when in reality, he affirms that it corresponds less, or if on the contrary the Government of the Cabildo "assumes that they were effectively lying".

In addition, the PIL hopes that the team led by Inés Rojas, will explain who set the amount to be received by the Cabildo and with what criteria that figure was determined, if they will recognize that "they were deliberately lying" by setting an amount that the ruling did not determine and if the Minister of Economy and Finance, Luis Celestino Arráez, plans to resign "for falsifying the content of the ruling and the true amounts". Finally, they ask that the Government Group clarify what is the real figure that Lanzarote should receive.
