The PSOE of Teguise announces this Monday in a press release that it will propose in the next plenary session to recognize the Teguise Sports Club with the gold medal of the Corporation, as it celebrates a century of life dedicated to the values of sports and the municipality in 2025.

“That July 3, 1925, when the first step was taken to establish what constitutes one of the most illustrious, noble and historic clubs in Teguise, Lanzarote and Canary sports, is long gone,” says Tana Reyes, socialist councilor.

“Then - Reyes recalls - the late president Juan Martí Ferrán announced his birth by letter to the Teguise City Council with the following words, literally”: “I have the honor of informing you that a Society entitled 'Guanapay Sports Club' has recently been established in this town, of which, although perhaps improperly, I was appointed President. As the purpose of this society is to cultivate sports, especially football, I am writing to you, asking you to grant the necessary authorization to play and arrange a sports field in the vacant land located behind 'Los Molinos', which is owned by the city council that you preside over”.

Since that letter, the germ of a centenary club, dozens of generations have been part of the CD Teguise family, as players, managers, coaches and fans of an institution that has written many of the most prominent lines in the history of sports in the municipality.

A club, says Reyes, "that contributes selflessly and exceptionally to the Teguise community, being an essential pillar not only in the sports field, but also in the social and educational field, by representing the values of our municipality and a tolerant, inclusive and diverse society."

“For all these reasons, in consideration of the public, notorious and documented merits - explains the socialist councilor - and when this year it reaches its first century of life, we propose the processing of the file for the granting of the gold medal of the Corporation to the Teguise Sports Club, in accordance with the ordinance of Honors and Distinctions of the City Council.”

Finally, Tana Reyes anticipates that, “it is fair to recognize the invaluable contribution of all the entities, associations and groups that with their trajectory and contribution make a better Teguise possible, whether in the sports, cultural, social or business field, which we will propose progressively.”
