The socialists from Tinajo have expressed their "rejection and indignation" at the decision adopted by the town's mayor, Jesús Machín, on March 29, when he refused to sign his call for participation in the Island Health Board.
"A mayor who is not concerned about Health or cares more about the orders he receives from Tenerife, is a mayor who is not needed." This is how forceful the PSOE of Tinajo has been in the face of this situation. In addition, this political group has also stated that they are "ashamed" of the decision adopted, since for them, this means hindering measures and issues that affect the entire society, such as health.
The socialist group also believes that Jesús Machín is showing contempt for the group of citizens who are represented on this Health Board. "No one can believe that the municipal mayor has an interest in getting the Tinajo Health Center off the ground," the socialists comment in the statement, as they assure that with actions like this, it can be seen what the mayor's objectives are.
The president of the PSOE in Lanzarote, Manuel Fajardo, had already expressed his "surprise" with respect to this decision by Jesús Machín, stating that "the City Council should give explanations to the residents of the municipality and the rest of the Island." In addition, he believes that the unexpected decision may be due to the fact that "Tinajo does not have health problems."
The Health Board was approved on January 13 unanimously, also with the votes of the Canarian Coalition, in a monographic plenary session on health held in the Cabildo. Two months later, Juan Manuel Sosa declared against the creation of this board, considering it "politicized and not competent." The vice president and Minister of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands, María del Mar Julios, in a visit to Lanzarote, also declared against this body, stating that "the Cabildos should collaborate in health matters, but the area of Health is something that only concerns the Autonomous Government."
