The PSOE of Teguise calls for participation in the events planned for the upcoming 8M, International Women's Day, "a day always of vindication for the rights of our colleagues," says socialist councilor Ángela Cañaveras.
"If in the past February plenary session in Teguise - Cañaveras points out - we supported the Declaration of the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP) for this March 8, under the slogan For all women and girls: Rights, Equality and empowerment, today we invite you to participate in the events that will take place on such an important date for those of us who defend an egalitarian and just society."
"Let's participate, and let's do it, more together, more united, more empowered to raise our voice and demand not a step back in the defense of our rights, in real and effective equality between women and men," emphasizes the socialist councilor.
"Well, as the FEMP's own declaration states, women represent approximately 51% of the Spanish population. However, recent studies show, for example, the wage gap that appears when women must choose between motherhood or continuing their professional career, and persists in areas such as services and care," Cañaveras laments.
"Reasons that, -the councilor appeals- justify raising our voice, mobilizing and renewing our firm commitment to defending the rights of women, without distinction based on origin, nationality, sexual orientation, ideological or any other consideration."
Finally, from the socialist ranks, they highlight the "fundamental role that education plays in this fight, to eradicate and condemn all macho behavior, and local administrations, due to their proximity to the citizens and the powers they have in matters such as measures to reconcile work, family and personal life," concludes Ángela Cañaveras.
