The association of chambermaids Las Kellys has met with the economist of the PSOE Management Committee, José Carlos Díez. In this meeting, promoted by the socialist party in Lanzarote, Las Kellys have emphasized that theirs "is not a salary demand, but a demand for rights, as workers." Present were the head of the association, Miriam Barros, with other colleagues, who have recounted "the long list of irregularities that are committed in their professional union, against which they demand sensitivity to the importance of their work performance, which directly affects the quality of the accommodation offer," they said from the PSOE in a statement.

In this way, the PSOE of Lanzarote has joined the complaint of the professional reality of the chambermaids "which does not diminish despite the excellent occupancy figures and economic benefit after overcoming the worst of the crisis," according to the secretary of the party, Dolores Corujo. They have done this, they have stated from the party, because they are "aware of the difficulties faced by this group in the Hospitality sector when it comes to claiming their demands." For his part, José Carlos Díez has asserted that since he became aware of their situation, he has "used the case of Las Kellys as a clear reflection of the economic crisis." The economist has raised the socialist commitments to repeal the Labor Reform and to modify article 42 "to equalize the conditions and salaries of personnel hired through Temporary Employment Agencies (ETT) with those subject to agreement."

"Dismissals due to pregnancy, exhausting working days under supposedly part-time contracts, chronic injuries, devaluation of salaries, precariousness due to subcontracting through ETTs... are just some of the complaints that the chambermaids are now filing," they stated from the PSOE. In addition, they have pointed out that "Las Kellys also demand the realization of real-time work studies per room unit and hotel by hotel, and the ergonomic and psychosocial reports that are already included in the current Hospitality agreement." "In the current conditions, of up to 20 and 30 rooms daily, in a few years you are no longer good for anything. And then, they throw you out on the street," the chambermaids have stated.

From the socialist party they have pointed out that "after years of exploitation, humiliations, union neglect, work injuries and above all, a lot of fear, the chambermaids sector has come to the fore to claim their rights." In this sense, Las Kellys have undertaken actions from Lanzarote, an association that "already has 2000 members, of which 500 work in hotel establishments on the island," they pointed out in the statement.
