The Socialist Group in the Cabildo of Lanzarote denounces that the island Government, presided over by Oswaldo Betancort, "has manipulated the data of execution of the island budget" to "hide its failure in management". Meanwhile, "the real execution is at a scarce 27.10%", Coalición Canaria and the Partido Popular have "artificially inflated the figure to 98.98%" with a calculation that "lacks accounting rigor and is a clear attempt to deceive the citizens".
The councilor of the Socialist Group in the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Benjamín Perdomo, points out that “we are facing one of the biggest accounting messes we have seen in the history of this institution. It is an absolute fraud. They have manipulated the data to try to hide their inability to manage public resources”.
The PSOE explains that the Minister of Finance has used as a reference the initial budget approved, "without taking into account the credit extensions, but then has added those extensions to the execution, which completely distorts reality. A simple analysis of some items demonstrates the deception".
“They have presented as executed amounts that far exceed the initial budget, which generates absurd percentages of execution that do not withstand the slightest analysis. It is a blatant attempt to pull the wool over the citizens' eyes”, Perdomo denounces.
One of the most scandalous examples is "the item of land and natural assets, which started with 90,000 euros, was expanded with three million and appears with an execution of 4.8 million". With this "fraudulent calculation", the Government of Oswaldo Betancort presents a "5,357% execution, a totally unreal figure. The same occurs with the item of buildings and other constructions, which started from 408,000 euros, was expanded with 12.7 million and 9.4 million were executed, which the Government disguises as a 2,315% execution".
“Oswaldo Betancort promised investments of 131 million and has only executed 35. The rest is propaganda and manipulation. Those who boasted of efficient management have failed miserably. And not only have they failed, but they are also trying to deceive the citizens with figures that do not hold up in any way”, insists the socialist councilor.
The PSOE of Lanzarote warns that "this scandal is further proof that the island Government is not only incapable of managing public resources, but also resorts to maneuvers of dubious transparency to hide its inefficiency".
“They are blatantly lying when they claim to have executed 98.98%. It is a crude lie that does not even reach the category of accounting artifice. It is a mess with which they are trying to cover up that they have done nothing in a whole year of government. There are no investments, no management, only propaganda and smoke”, concludes Benjamín Perdomo.
