The PSOE of Arrecife has denounced this Wednesday that the mayor Yonathan de León has decided to spend about 30,000 euros of public money on a gala dinner to close the San Ginés Football Tournament, an event that already involved an outlay of more than 170,000 euros and that "passed with more sorrow than glory."
The socialists recall that this tournament was organized in desperation after the Socialist Municipal Group denounced the suspension of option A initially planned for August 7, 8 and 9, which included teams such as UD Lanzarote, US Yaiza, Rayo Vallecano B, Girona B, and the women's teams of Real Sociedad and CD Tenerife. "Everything fell apart due to the disastrous management of Yonathan de León and his trusted fixer, Eli Merino," they lamented.
"The serious thing is not only the disproportion of the expense, but the lack of respect for the sports clubs of the municipality, which still do not receive the subsidies of last season or know when the call for this year will be," denounced the socialist councilor Roy González. "While hundreds of families await a response, Councilor Merino is dedicated to asking if the dinner guests prefer vegetables with meat or fish. It is a mockery, and an insult to those who support the grassroots sport of our city with great effort," he added.
From the PSOE of Arrecife it is denounced that, while an elite banquet is organized for a few, the sports clubs still do not see a single euro of the promised aid. "Once again, sport and citizenship are relegated to the background, sacrificed on the altar of waste and political posturing," they denounce.
"We are talking about a tournament with history, recognized at regional and national level, which should be a tribute to the effort of players, coaches and fans. But this municipal government has turned it into just another excuse for capricious spending and self-promotion," said Roy González.
The socialist councilor has been forceful: "Arrecife does not need gala dinners. It needs management, responsibility, planning and respect. What is happening is shameful."
For the PSOE of Arrecife, the model of government that Yonathan de León and Eli Merino are consolidating is based on improvisation, clientelism and waste. "The culture of waste has become the hallmark of this government group. And as always, the bill is paid by all the residents of Arrecife," they conclude.
