The PSOE of Lanzarote once again denounces the “unsustainable and precarious situation that affects the families of the island, who in some cases are taking up to three days to bury their loved ones due to the lack of forensic assistants." The deputy in Congress and general secretary of the PSOE of Lanzarote, María Dolores Corujo, has once again demanded an immediate solution from the Government of the Canary Islands to this situation, which she considers "an inadmissible mistreatment of citizens."
“It is unacceptable that in a moment as painful as the loss of a family member, the families of Lanzarote have to face this lack of humanity due to the inability of the Government of the Canary Islands to guarantee an adequate forensic service. This situation is not only precarious, it is undignified and must be resolved immediately”, Corujo declared.
"The problem is that, despite the fact that the Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences of Las Palmas (IMLCF) has four forensic doctors in Lanzarote, it only has a single forensic assistant. This means that, when this professional is on sick leave or on vacation, autopsies cannot be performed, generating delays that directly affect families", they say.
“This structural deficiency highlights the lack of planning by the Government of the Canary Islands, which has not been able to cover substitutions in such an essential service. We cannot continue to allow the families of Lanzarote to experience this humiliation when they are going through one of the most difficult moments of their lives”, said the socialist leader.
The PSOE demands once again that the forensic auxiliary staff be reinforced urgently and that a system be established to guarantee the continuity of the service at all times. “The Government of the Canary Islands must assume its responsibility and act with the urgency that this serious situation requires. The families of Lanzarote deserve dignified and respectful treatment”, Corujo concluded.
