The PSOE of Lanzarote, through Councilor Benjamín Perdomo, has denounced the “resounding failure” of the broadcast of the Telecinco New Year's Eve broadcast from the island, organized by the Centers for Art, Culture and Tourism (CACT). According to audience data, the private channel's special broadcast barely achieved a 4.8% audience share and an average of 753,000 viewers, far from the competition.

“The decision to allocate 1.5 million euros from the CACT to an event that did not have the expected impact in terms of promoting the island is yet another example of the irresponsible management that characterizes this government,” said Perdomo.

A "fiasco" for the socialists

The socialist councilor stressed that while Telecinco barely achieved relevance, La 1 of Televisión Española consolidated its leadership with a 31.2% share and 4,800,000 viewers during the complete broadcast, reaching 33.1% and 5,642,000 viewers in the minute of the grapes. “Telecinco's results were not only disappointing, but fell far short of its direct competition, demonstrating that this initiative did not meet expectations or justify the high cost involved,” he added.

The PSOE of Lanzarote criticizes that the CACT, under the direction of Oswaldo Betancort and his team, prioritize projects "without a clear strategy and without guaranteeing a return on investment" for the promotion of the island. “Lanzarote deserves serious and responsible initiatives, not grandiose gestures that end in media fiascos and waste public resources. The image of Lanzarote is not boosted with television failures, but with planning and rigor”, concluded Perdomo.

The PSOE demands transparency in the costs of this event and "demands explanations about the criteria used to bet on a channel that does not have the majority support of the audience" on such an important night. “It is urgent to change the course of the CACT and refocus on the sustainable and effective promotion of Lanzarote,” insisted the councilor.
