The PSOE criticizes Teguise for advancing another half million to the bank "instead of investing in the municipality"

The socialists believe that "it is time to put public resources at the service of citizens and economic reactivation in a crisis of uncertain duration"

The PSOE of Teguise has once again opposed "the blindness of the Coalición Canaria government group consummated in the last plenary session held this Thursday, by using another Treasury surplus to advance credit payments to the Bank.

"We say another surplus because already in March, in the midst of the state of alarm due to the pandemic, Oswaldo Betancort preferred to give another three million euros to the bank instead of investing in social policies and economic reactivation", says the spokesperson for the socialists, Marcos Bergaz.

According to the PSOE of Teguise, this situation is due to the fact that the municipal government "lives in a bubble that has nothing to do with reality that even these critical times have failed to modify".

"It is not easy to find a reasonable explanation, especially when the use of savings (surpluses) of municipal entities has been made more flexible, making it possible to invest these public resources in reversing the difficult situation that our society is experiencing as a result of the COVID19 crisis, which we do not know how long it will last", Bergaz points out.

“Even the Teguise government itself demanded to be able to use the Municipality's savings in these difficult times, however, when they have the opportunity they decide to give them to financial institutions in advance”, adds the socialist spokesperson.

Standing "by the people"

For the PSOE, "the mayor and his Coalición Canaria group had a magnificent opportunity to change their mindset and stand by the people" and "however, they turn their backs on them again". "They could well have opted for an economic reactivation plan with actions such as increasing social and study aid, measures to support local commerce, beautification of all our towns and payments; improve access to Costa Teguise, or even be prepared for future needs. However, they continue to opt to advance money from loans that are being paid regularly", says Marcos Bergaz.

With that objective on the horizon, the socialist leader from Teguise has urged the Coalición Canaria group of Teguise "to reject this routine management as a way of doing politics". "In these difficult times, it is time to alleviate the effects of a crisis that affects many citizens, sectors, economic and institutions, and that unfortunately we do not know how long it will last", he concludes.
