The socialists of Arrecife have criticized the decision of the mayor, Cándido Reguera, to brick up the door and windows of the house most affected by the collapses of last year in Titerroy. In this house a young man died when the roof of his room collapsed.

In the opinion of the PSOE, the measure does not represent any progress towards solving the problem of the owners of the property, but rather an action "for the sake of appearances." "It is necessary to take a serious, rigorous and decisive decision with this matter once and for all. We have been hearing about reports, aid and responsibilities of the different administrations for more than a year, but in the end nothing is done," defended the socialist councilor, Víctor Sanginés.

In his opinion, the "solution" of the bricking up "is typical of Cándido Reguera, out of sight, out of mind." "But the truth is that closing the gaps and keeping the patio uncovered will turn that house into a cistern the next time it rains," he said. Apparently, the floods last month "ended the furniture that was still in good condition" inside the house.

The PSOE has reiterated its conviction that the five most affected homes could be repaired with municipal funds, "saving superfluous expenses, such as electoral trips to the peninsula, à la carte reports, advisors' salaries, computer toys or guest artists' fees."
