The Socialist Group in the Cabildo of Lanzarote has requested the appearance of the president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort, to clarify the situation of at least two photovoltaic plants that, according to information published in various local media during the month of January, could be implemented in the municipality of Tías. One of them had even been declared of general interest.
According to the spokesperson for the Socialist Group in the Cabildo, Ariagona González, this appearance is "necessary for the president to detail what phase these projects are in, if there are others with similar characteristics in process and what is the position of the island government in this regard."
"The development of renewable energies in Lanzarote is essential to advance the ecological transition, but it must be done with planning and guaranteeing transparency. We want the president to explain what the situation of these projects is and what is the position of his government on this type of infrastructure," González said.
The PSOE insists that the implementation of new energy infrastructures must "respond to a sustainable and well-planned model, which takes into account not only the need to increase the production of clean energy, but also the protection of the territory and citizen participation in decision-making."
"Renewable energies are the future, but they must be developed with clear criteria and guaranteeing that the general interest is not just an excuse to benefit a few. The Cabildo has the obligation to inform with transparency and ensure that any decision in this matter is for the benefit of all citizens," concluded the socialist spokesperson. The Socialist Group hopes that Oswaldo Betancort will give detailed explanations in the next island Plenary.
