The spokesperson for the Socialist Group in the Arrecife City Council, Alfredo Mendoza, has accused the mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan De León, of "demanding" the return of social emergency aid to families in vulnerable situations. The aid, which was granted in 2020 during the crisis caused by COVID 19, was given to families in the municipality to cover essential expenses such as food and rent payments.
According to Mendoza, there are "more than 70 families affected" by this claim made by the government of the Popular Party and the Canarian Coalition, after the City Council decreed to initiate the procedure "of demanding reimbursement" from the beneficiaries for the return of the same. However, the Councilor for Social Services has reported that 430 families must justify these aids.
"If a government is not capable of helping the residents in their moments of greatest vulnerability, it is definitely a government that has failed.”
“The government of Yonathan De León is turning its back on the residents who most need institutional support. This is nothing more than the result of the dehumanized and disastrous management of the Popular Party in Social Services. If a government is not capable of helping the residents in their moments of greatest vulnerability, it is definitely a government that has failed,” concludes the spokesperson for the Socialist Group in the Arrecife City Council.
