The PSOE accuses Oswaldo Betancort of "lying" about the water emergency: "Deadlines are not being shortened"

The socialists state that "far from serving to speed up deadlines or increase investment, what the president of the Cabildo has done is waste two key years while continuing to fuel an empty and misleading story"

The Socialist Group in the Cabildo of Lanzarote denounces that "the falsehood" built around the declaration of water emergency promoted by Oswaldo Betancort has been completely dismantled. "Far from serving to speed up deadlines or increase investment, what the president of the Cabildo has done is waste two key years while continuing to fuel an empty and misleading story," they state from the party.

“Deadlines are not being shortened, nor is more being invested, nor is there any extraordinary management. What there is, is a citizenry tired of suffering constant water cuts while Betancort dedicates himself to beating around the bush and inventing stories. He has wasted two years that he could have dedicated to investing in infrastructure and recovering the management of the integral water cycle, and instead he has preferred to act as a spokesperson for Canal Gestión,” denounced Benjamín Perdomo, councilor of the Socialist Group in the Cabildo.

The socialists "categorically deny the version offered by the island's president, who recently tried to sell as an extraordinary achievement the awarding of some works that, in reality, have followed an ordinary procedure. As stated in the public procurement platform of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, the Water Consortium has awarded the works for the renovation, expansion and improvement of the supply and sanitation networks in Lanzarote and La Graciosa through an open procedure."

These actions, which will be executed by three concessionary companies in the sector, have a total budget of 5 million euros from the Water Consortium's own funds and will be processed through an ordinary procedure.

"A mockery of the citizens"

“Where is the agility? Where are the real effects of this supposed emergency? Let them not come now to take credit for executing works with their own funds that are late and bad, and that are also processed through the usual procedure. This is a mockery of the citizens,” lamented Perdomo.

Similarly, the PSOE of Lanzarote "dismantles the idea that the 7 million euros that Betancort says he has obtained through the water emergency procedure could only be obtained thanks to said declaration." As the socialists have explained, these subsidies come from the Government of the Canary Islands, through the Ministry of Water, and could have been processed perfectly through the ordinary channel if there had been adequate planning and political will."

“The problem is not only the inaction, but the constant mockery of a citizenry that has been seeing for months how it suffers water cuts without anyone taking responsibility. The water chaos is not resolved with headlines, but with planned investments, the will to recover the public management of the water cycle and real solutions for the entire island,” concluded the socialist councilor.
