“It is a reality that most of the employment generated on the island is related to tourism and the service sector, therefore the capital and the tourist areas are the ones that generate the most jobs,” says Jacobo Medina

The Popular Party Group in the Cabildo of Lanzarote and La Graciosa have presented a proposal to the next plenary session urging the government to launch a bus line that connects Tinajo with the town of Playa Blanca. According to the PP councilor, Jacobo Medina, the objective of the initiative is to “make it possible for the residents of Tinajo to travel by public transport to their jobs in the tourist area of the neighboring municipality, with which there is currently no connection.”

“It is a reality that most of the employment generated on the island is related to tourism and the service sector, therefore the capital and the tourist areas are the ones that generate the most jobs,” says the councilor and also candidate for the presidency of the Cabildo. This is the case of Arrecife, Costa Teguise, Puerto del Carmen and Playa Blanca; "the latter being one of the towns with the most prospects for creating employment with the opening of new hotel facilities," he adds.

Medina points out that the initiative stems from the neighborhood demands received by the PP of Tinajo, which has long been noting the need to launch this direct line to unite both towns. In this sense, the Popular candidate for Mayor of Tinajo, Ramón Ortiz, adds that “the new job expectations that will open up in a relatively short time in Playa Blanca, together with the high price of fuel, confirm the importance of launching this new line which, initially, could include a daily connection that allows residents to get to work first thing in the morning and return home at the end of the day, adjusting the capacity of the vehicle to demand.”

From the ranks of the PP they point out that "any serious commitment that the Cabildo wants to make to sustainable mobility should be included in the programming of the public transport service of Lanzarote, taking into account the new reality that is opening up and that will require a general reinforcement of the current connections with Playa Blanca and the creation of new routes with vehicles adapted to passenger demand".
