The president of the PP of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, Astrid Pérez, wanted to send a clear message of support to the Venezuelan people and against Nicolás Maduro, who is scheduled to be invested as president tomorrow despite having lost the elections last July.

The Populars have joined the concentration held in Arrecife in which the attendees have recognized and proclaimed Edmundo González as legitimate president against Nicolás Maduro, who has been exercising strong repression against opponents and their families these previous days. “An intolerable intimidation and repression in any democracy and that is also being exercised against the Venezuelan population that turned its back on Maduro and in the polls shouted and voted for freedom”, points out Astrid Pérez.

“If Nicolás Maduro is invested as president, he will do so with the complicity of Pedro Sánchez's Government, who is only interested in focusing on commemorating Franco's death to try to cover up his scandals and the corruption that surrounds him”, criticizes Pérez, who adds that “the only celebration that the socialist government should do is to welcome democracy in Venezuela”. “Spain and the Government should oppose dictators who are alive like Nicolás Maduro and stop giving prominence to the dead, which is what the PSOE does every time it has a party crisis and problems haunt it”, added the island leader of the Popular Party.

Numerous public officials from the PP and also supporters who wanted to support the group of Venezuelans residing on the island who took to the streets this Thursday participated in the concentration. Astrid Pérez has insisted, “we are never going to leave the Venezuelan people alone and, as until now, we are going to continue fighting against the dictatorial regime of Nicolas Maduro from all possible fronts”.

As will be recalled, the Popular Party has presented several initiatives in all local corporations, including a last motion against the regime and in recognition of Edmundo González as elected president of Venezuela.
