The traditional New Year's Eve festival in Puerto del Carmen, one of the consolidated events of the municipal festive calendar, was once again "the scene of violent incidents" that left at least two people injured. Following the brawl that took place in the early hours of January 1, the Popular Party has highlighted "the deficient planning of the event, as the presence of police and health personnel was not guaranteed until the end of the festival."

The Popular Party of Tias has denounced "the irresponsibility of the municipal government that, once again, is unable to guarantee the safety of attendees at a mass event that is held annually and for which there is a history of incidents and fights."

The opposition party has stated that "this lack of resources left some people injured on this occasion and an atmosphere of tension and concern for both the attendees and the members of the orchestra, who were precisely the ones who tried to call for order and tranquility because "in these conditions we cannot work."

Thus, it has stated that "the lack of police presence during the most critical hours of the festivity points to a lack of coordination in the management of events of this nature, which attract hundreds of people." Meanwhile, "it is unacceptable that, despite the history and the risk inherent in this type of event, the necessary resources are not available to guarantee security. Once again, we have witnessed incidents that could have been avoided with a greater number of personnel. It is time to take serious measures and ensure that this type of situation does not happen again," says the councilor of the Popular Group, Saray Rodríguez Marrero.

"Unfortunately, this year's incidents are not an isolated case. In recent years, the New Year's Eve festival has been the scene of altercations due to the overcrowding of people and the lack of security forces, so the objective of the municipal government should be to improve security planning in future events, especially on special dates, such as the New Year's Eve celebration."

"It is essential to guarantee a greater presence of personnel to be able to attend to any risk situation that may arise, protecting both citizens and tourists who decide to share the welcome to the new year with us," adds Saray Rodríguez Marrero.
