The permanent assignment of the Lanzarote Prosecutor's Office will become an area prosecutor's office

The Ministry of Justice will convert the permanent assignment of the Lanzarote Prosecutor's Office into an area prosecutor's office. This change implies in practice the immediate creation of the position of chief area prosecutor, for which a competition of merits and abilities will be called and to which any prosecutor in Spain may apply.

The change will be officially published, as stated this Thursday in statements to ACN Press, by the senior prosecutor of the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands, Vicente Garrido, at the end of this month or at the beginning of the next, and will grant the Lanzarote Prosecutor's Office "a certain level of self-management." With the creation of the position of chief prosecutor, the Island will stop from eight to nine prosecutors.

Garrido, asked about the work of the Prosecutor's Office in the environmental field in Lanzarote, defended the work of this judicial body as a whole and pointed out, due to the complexity of the matter, the need to have more auxiliary personnel at the provincial level. He also pointed out that the means available "are what they are and are the correct ones" and that there is no paralysis in terms of crimes arising from land management.

CONFERENCES

Vicente Garrido is participating this Thursday in the inauguration of the conference 'Illicit evidence in criminal proceedings', organized by Juriscomer Canarias, at the Arrecife Gran Hotel in Lanzarote. The event will be presided over by the Deputy Minister of Justice and Security of the Government of the Canary Islands, Carolina Déniz; together with Garrido himself; the dean of the Lanzarote Bar Association, Francisco Torres Stinga; the prosecutor of the Province of Las Palmas, Ignacio Stampa; and the commercial director of the entity promoting the event, Armando Betancor.

The meeting, in which some of the most prestigious jurists on the national scene will participate, will take place in three sessions. During its development, their presentations will be presented, among others, by the Magistrate of the second chamber of the Supreme Court, Manuel Marchena Gómez; the anti-drug prosecutor of Tenerife, Miguel Serrano Solis; the chief prosecutor of the Provincial Prosecutor's Office of Las Palmas, Guillermo García-Panasco; the magistrate of the second section of the Provincial Court of Las Palmas, Inocencia Eugenia Cabello Díaz; the prosecutor of the second chamber of the Supreme Court, Antonio del Moral García; the magistrate of the Court of Instruction 5 of Arrecife de Lanzarote, César Romero Pamparacuatro; and the magistrate of the second chamber of the Supreme Court, Eduardo de Urbano Castrillo.

The presentation of their topics will help to delve into the current treatment of illicit evidence in criminal proceedings, a point of undoubted importance for criminal jurisprudence at this time. Thus, starting from a broad concept of illicit evidence, which includes those that, in an absolute or relative sense, deny the form agreed in the norm or go against principles of positive law, the attendees will deliberate on its present state, its validity or invalidity depending on the procedure or its possible legal effectiveness within the legal system.
