The municipal groups of Coalición Canaria, Partido Popular, Partido Socialista, and Yaiza Siempre have jointly presented a motion to the Plenary of the Yaiza City Council requesting the cession of a suitable municipal premises for the Volcán de Timanfaya Senior Association, an entity that has been carrying out outstanding social, cultural, and active aging work in the municipality for years. The Timanfaya Volcano Senior Association currently has approximately 80 associated members and is, furthermore, the only senior association existing in Yaiza, which underscores its social relevance and the fundamental role it plays in the care, participation, and well-being of the municipality's senior citizens
More than a year ago, the association formally requested the City Council to cede a municipal premises that met the necessary conditions for the development of its activities. However, to date, this request has not been satisfactorily addressed by the governing group
At the time, the council ceded a space in the Playa Blanca Bus Station to the previous board, but the signatory groups consider that it is a clearly insufficient premises, barely 2x2 meters, which does not respond to the real or current needs of the association.
The four municipal groups agree that, if the City Council provides support to other collectives and associations in the municipality, it is reasonable and fair that the Volcán de Timanfaya Senior Association receives equitable treatment, in accordance with its social importance and the service it provides to the community. Likewise, they emphasize that supporting the elderly is not only a matter of social justice, but also an institutional commitment to active aging, citizen participation, and social cohesion in the municipality
For all these reasons, the motion proposes that the Yaiza City Council initiate the necessary procedures for the transfer of a suitable municipal premises, both in size and conditions, for the Volcán de Timanfaya Senior Association. In the event that a municipal property is not available, the groups propose as an alternative that the council consider a specific subsidy so that the association can rent a space that allows it to develop its activity normally.
