Following graffiti and other obvious damage to the newly opened sports facility in the center of Playa Blanca, the Yaiza Town Council is calling for the care of courts, playgrounds, street furniture and any leisure space at the service of citizen use and enjoyment, "they are assets of all the residents of our municipality who as people and users deserve absolute respect," emphasizes the mayor, Óscar Noda, who encourages the population "to inform the Police of unscrupulous actions that threaten public facilities and that harm children, young people, families and sports entities that find in them places of recreation, leisure and coexistence."

Last February, the Administration launched a citizen awareness campaign with emphasis on good practices in the use of parks, children's play areas, bio-healthy equipment, courts and sports facilities. "In November we opened the new court in the center of town, with a project of full rehabilitation that involved a municipal investment of 450,000 euros, and in less than a month we found damage that has no justification," adds the Councilor for Public Works and Sports, Ángel Lago.

The court in the center of town is used for the practice and competition of indoor soccer and handball and all categories of the Campos de Lanzarote indoor soccer club, linked to the 'Yaiza Sports Schools' program, regularly train there. "We have to be much more aware and sensitive about the public utility of the facilities and help to care for and preserve them," adds the mayor, who hopes that "dishonorable acts will not be repeated."
