The municipality of Yaiza has raised this Tuesday its two renewed blue flags in the towns of Playa Blanca and Puerto Calero. These distinctions accredit the quality of the water and complementary services of the small beach and the marina.

For the mayor of Yaiza, Óscar Nodas, these flags "give greater value to Yaiza as a first-class tourist destination in the Canary Islands." The southern president first raised the flag of Playa Blanca together with Daniel Medina, Councilor for Tourism and Beaches of Yaiza, and then in Puerto Calero, in this case also in the company of José Calero, president of Calero Marinas and Alex Betancor, manager of the port.

The small beach of Playa Blanca, the beach of a lifetime, is equipped with a ramp and accessibility walkway, a rescue service currently provided by the Red Cross, showers and footbaths, and a shaded area for people with reduced mobility. "The City Council renews its investment commitment to the beach within the scope of its powers so that our neighbors and tourists can continue to enjoy a pleasant and emblematic location," adds the mayor.

For his part, Daniel Medina describes the small beach "as a symbol of Playa Blanca with a presence in the different formats of tourist promotion that public administrations disseminate, also being an essential scenario for the practice and exhibition of native sports such as Canarian wrestling and Latin sailing."

As for Puerto Calero, the mayor praises the property led by businessman José Calero: "It is fair to publicly recognize the great investment effort reflected in 40 years of experience and 29 consecutive blue flags, apart from other quality seals achieved by the marina in four decades of history."

Puerto Calero is the only marina in Lanzarote with the blue flag distinction. It is a benchmark in services, environmental management and waste, and is constant in carrying out awareness campaigns so that port users and visitors are more aware of the need to preserve the ecosystem.

November is the month indicated for the start of the season of magayates, but every year this type of luxury boats dock earlier in Puerto Calero, thus extending their stay in Lanzarote with longer stopovers, also useful for the maintenance and repairs of ships that involve greater consumption at the destination. "We have collaborative ties with Puerto Calero and jointly carry out sporting and environmental events and activities for the benefit of our municipality and the island of Lanzarote," adds Óscar Noda.
