The Moroccan Minister of Justice, Mohamed Bouzoubah, confirmed this Tuesday in statements to a local television that the alleged terrorists arrested these days were preparing terrorist attacks. He also added that "the terrorists are Moroccans residing abroad and others residing in the country." "The Moroccans from abroad, specifically Jalid Azhig and Mohamed Raha, entered Morocco clandestinely," he reiterated.

Among those arrested are two Moroccans who spent more than three years detained at the American base in Guantanamo.

The minister also confirmed that the detainees are at the disposal of the courts and will be tried when the investigating judge finishes the interrogations.

Morocco has been the target of two terrorist attacks of an Islamic nature, the first in August 1994 against a hotel in Marrakech (the two victims were Spanish tourists) where those who committed the attack were French-Moroccans belonging to a Moroccan radical group; and on May 16, 2003, the bloodiest against hotels in Agadir, which left 45 victims, including four Spaniards. The last attack was the work of the Al Qaeda organization.

After the Casablanca attacks, the security services arrested more than eight thousand people and tried more than a thousand, with sentences ranging from life imprisonment to two years.

International espionage reports indicate that Morocco is the third Arab country on the Al Qaeda list after Saudi Arabia and Jordan. Therefore, there is strong surveillance around state institutions and tourist hotels.
