The Cabildo of Lanzarote has presented and handed over the Lanzarote Field Notebook to representatives of the island's agricultural sector, a fundamental tool for the development of agricultural activity. This initiative is part of the island's strategy to support, modernize, and assist Lanzarote's countryside.

The Field Notebook is conceived as a practical document for the daily work of farmers, compiling highly useful technical information, but it is also a tool for disseminating the values of Lanzarote as a Globally Important Agricultural Heritage System (GIAHS). Its contents include references to the water footprint, the island's traditional crops, pest control, irrigation management, and other essential aspects such as recording pruning, fertilization, phytosanitary treatments, and grape harvesting.

During the event held this Monday, the president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort, underscored the relevance of the primary sector for the island. “Agriculture, in addition to being a vital economic activity, is an essential piece of our identity as a people and of our development model. With this Field Notebook, we want to facilitate the work of those who keep our landscape, our traditions, and our food sovereignty alive,” stated Betancort.

The president also recalled that last October Lanzarote received the International Recognition as Globally Important Heritage Agricultural System (GIAHS), a milestone that highlights centuries of knowledge, effort, and respect for this land

“This international recognition honors generations of farmers who, with ingenuity and perseverance, managed to cultivate in a seemingly impossible environment. Our challenge now is to preserve this living legacy and project it into the future,” he added.

In the words of the Councilor for Landscape and Food Sovereignty, Samuel Martín, "the Field Notebook is a mandatory document for recipients of CAP subsidies and a tool that organizes, accompanies, and improves the management of agricultural holdings.""We have distributed 1,500 copies of the notebook on ecological paper," adds Martín, "but it can also be downloaded in digital format through the website www.sipamlanzarote.com, and thus farmers can have all the information, addresses, and contacts of interest for different services such as the land bank or the laboratory in the palm of their hand."

With this delivery, the Cabildo of Lanzarote provides the agricultural sector with a useful and necessary tool that will allow each farmer to keep a detailed record of their crops, where they can also note observations, plan tasks, and register incidents. In short, a notebook that will contribute to improving farm management, facilitating regulatory compliance, and supporting the continuity of an activity closely linked to the island's landscape, culture, and economy.
