The initiative for La Graciosa to be recognized as the eighth Canary Island already has 310 signatures, on the website www.change.org. This campaign claims the "own identity" of La Graciosa in the Canary Archipelago and a "greater autonomy" for this island. In addition, citizen support is requested "to ensure that the request is successful."

The campaign began on February 6 and, according to the website, 490 signatures are still needed. The campaign is aimed at the President of the Government of the Canary Islands, Paulino Rivero, the President of the Cabildo, Pedro San Ginés, and the Mayor of Teguie, Oswaldo Betancort. With this initiative, they intend that "instead of seven, officially speak of eight Canary Islands."

In the same way, it is requested that each of these institutions allocate a budget item to La Graciosa, which brings citizens closer to those services that they cannot access due to their remoteness and that the island be taken into account when scheduling official events. Finally, it is requested that La Graciosa have a minor local entity, always in accordance with the law and dependent on the Teguise City Council, which allows the people of Graciosa to "manage the affairs of the island with certain autonomy."

All those people who want to support this initiative can do so at the following link: https://www.change.org/es/peticiones/reconocimiento-oficial-de-la-graciosa-como-la-8a-isla-canaria

In addition to the internet, during these days signatures will be collected in paper format, thus favoring the participation of those who do not use new technologies, according to the organizers.
