The Guiguan winery in Tinajo hosts the third session of the training days on tourism and viticulture

The Guiguan winery, in Tajaste, in the municipality of Tinajo, will be the meeting point for those interested in participating in the third session of the Lanzarote Tourism and Viticulture Training Days 2011. These talks will be held this Saturday starting at 8:30 a.m. and are organized by the Regulatory Council of the Designation of Origin "Vinos de Lanzarote", the Association of Friends of Wine and Cheese of Lanzarote and the José Clavijo y Fajardo Foundation.

During the day, a practical grape harvest class will be held on the farm, to continue in the winery with the selection of the grapes, destemming and pressing to obtain the must that, in the end, will become wine.

Once this practice is finished, a talk will be offered at 12:00 noon in the Socio-cultural Center of Mancha Blanca, by Orlando Ortega, owner of the Lilium Gastrobar. In this colloquium, they will teach how wines should be presented, how they should be treated and what conditions they must meet so that they do not lose freshness, aroma, flavor and quality.

The days, free of charge, are aimed primarily at students and workers related to the tourism, hospitality and restaurant sector; although at the same time they are open to all types of public who want to attend them as listeners. Of course, prior registration is required at the Regulatory Council or by calling the telephone numbers 928 52 13 13 or 928 52 10 48.

Consolidated talks

The first session of these talks took place last February in Teguise and La Geria and was attended by nearly 100 students. The second was held in May in Yé, with about 80 participants.

These Tourism and Viticulture Days are part of the training program designed for 2011 by the Regulatory Council, which also includes the celebration of several courses, such as the introduction to wine tasting and for obtaining the food handler card, which will be held in October, and phytosanitary products, which will take place in November.
