The General Director of Labor of the Government of the Canary Islands, Pedro Tomás Pino, warns Canarian businessmen that a plot has been discovered formed by several people who identify themselves as Labor inspectors without being so, carry out inspections in businesses and charge for these services.
The plot was uncovered last week when a businesswoman from Santa Cruz de Tenerife reported to the General Directorate of Labor that several people had appeared at her business, informed her that the interior and fire extinguishing signage of her establishment did not comply with current regulations, replaced it with another that they carried themselves, and charged her less than 100 euros.
The complainant became suspicious when her labor advisor indicated that the invoice was not legal, after investigating and realizing that she had been the victim of a scam, she decided to report the facts. The General Director informed in a press conference held this Monday in the capital of Gran Canaria, that for now they only know "formally" about this case, but it is not ruled out that there may be some more.
Therefore, they invite all Canarian businessmen to report if they have suffered similar cases like this. Pedro Tomás Pino, who was accompanied by Juan de Dios Fernández, territorial director of Social Security in the Canary Islands, recalled that all officials have the obligation to identify themselves at the beginning of an inspection, and "in no case is there a charge for carrying out an inspection."
The Executive, in addition to making this scam known to public opinion, has also transferred the facts to the Civil Guard, who has already started an investigation.
