The Government of the Canary Islands has announced that it will assume the expansion of the Compulsory Education Center (CEO) Playa Blanca, in the municipality of Yaiza, which has a base bidding budget of one million euros.
During his institutional visit to the Island Council, the Minister of Education, Vocational Training, Physical Activity and Sports, Poli Suáarez explained that the expansion will consist of providing nine new classrooms (four for Secondary and other dependencies).
“At present, the project is drafted, supervised and ready to be tendered and the forecast is that it will be operational in September 2025”, declared Suárez. He also announced that the files for the installation of photovoltaic panels in a dozen centers in Lanzarote are already underway.
The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort, congratulated the minister for the imminent launch of the project, “which has become important due to the population growth experienced by this center, despite its youth.”
“It is good news for Yaiza, especially for the families of Playa Blanca, because a new infrastructure will be offered that responds to a new reality,” added the president, who pledged to serve as a bridge between the regional government and the town councils and collaborate on the improvements required by the island, at an educational and sports level, such as the provision of shade spaces, promoting clean energy and continuing to fight for a new CEO in Costa Teguise, which I know is already in planning.”
For his part, the vice president and Minister of Public Works, Jacobo Medina, considered that the visit of the Minister of Education and Sports “generates synergies between both administrations in the face of projects to improve the sports and educational infrastructures of the island.”
The meeting was also attended by the island's Minister of Education, Ascensión Toledo; the island's Minister of Sports, Juan Monzón; the Deputy Minister of Physical Activity and Sports, Ángel Sabroso, who addressed the demands in sports matters of the Island Corporation; the general director of Educational Infrastructures and Equipment, Iván González, on behalf of the Ministry, as well as Carmen Pellón, island director of Education.
