The Government of Spain is going to prohibit that babies born through surrogacy can be registered in the country's consulates. As reported by Radio Televisión Española, these newborns will have to be registered by "biological affiliation or subsequent adoptive affiliation" in the Civil Registry.

Following an agreement by the Ministry of the Presidency, Justice and Relations with the Courts, this initiative will come into effect this Thursday in the Official State Gazette (BOE).

Thus, once the BOE is published, pending applications for registration of minors in consulates are suspended.
