The Governing Council has authorized this Friday, at the proposal of the Minister of Public Works, Transport and Housing of the Government of the Canary Islands, Sebastián Franquis, the expenditure of 4,334,812 euros to put out to tender again the construction works of the new underpass under the LZ-2 to improve connectivity with the industrial and commercial area on the other side of the Playa Honda highway. "With this authorization, it is possible to resume the bidding procedure for works whose tender was declared void months ago because, initially, the revision of prices of construction materials was not considered according to the real price that is handled in the market today in a sector very affected by inflation," they add.

After the update of the project, drafted by the Cabildo and updated and adapted by the technical services of the Regional Ministry, the budget has been raised to 4.3 million euros, which covers the real cost of the materials to be acquired for the work.

The project that will be tendered in the coming weeks contemplates the creation of a transversal axis under the LZ-2 that serves as communication between Playa Honda and the industrial and commercial area located on the other side of the highway. This involves creating another underground passage parallel to the current one, but in this case with a design that facilitates both pedestrian and vehicular traffic, favoring pedestrian and cyclist communication.

The works aim to execute a new underpass that is wide, safe and provided with natural lighting through skylights on the roof that will allow both to regenerate the interior air, as well as to provide light and provide greater comfort to the space. In addition, this passage will be given sufficient width for the coexistence between pedestrian, cyclist and driver, implementing a pedestrian sidewalk of 5.50 meters, a segregated bike lane of 3.50 meters, a green strip of 1.90 meters, and a traffic lane of 5.50 meters.

In addition, on the LZ-2 road, over the underpass, intercity bus stops will be made in order to eliminate traffic at this junction. These stops will be connected to the underpass by means of open-air routes.
