The Cabildo of Lanzarote, through the Area of Social Welfare and Inclusion, announces that the next talk within the 'Geriatrics Month by Month' Program will focus on mild cognitive impairment and dementia. The event will take place next Wednesday, May 28, from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., in the Assembly Hall of the Corporation.
The meeting will include the participation of the psychologist specializing in Clinical Neuropsychology, co-founder and director of the Activa Centers, and professor-tutor of Memory Psychology at UNED Lanzarote, Teresa Melián Hernández.
The Councilor for Social Welfare, Marci Acuña, assures that "this talk on cognitive impairment and dementia is essential for families, caregivers to be better prepared, know what signs to pay attention to and better understand the first signs of these disorders."
"We work to anticipate the needs of our elders and that involves information, prevention and support," adds the councilor.
The speaker Teresa Melián will address key questions about how to identify when frequent forgetfulness can no longer be considered part of normal aging and become signs of cognitive impairment. In addition, the differences between the symptoms of age and the first signs of dementia will be discussed, as well as the measures that can be taken in the face of the initial signs of these conditions.
