The Port Authority of Las Palmas carried out the first test at the new Arrecife cruise ship dock this Thursday. A test that, according to reports from this organization, has been "satisfactory".

The test was carried out with the smallest cruise ship of the four that arrived on the island this Thursday, the "Black Watch". Thus, at 7:30 a.m., the ship docked at the new facilities. Subsequently, according to the Port Authority of Las Palmas, other tests will be carried out progressively with larger ships. The objective is to achieve the greatest effectiveness of this new port infrastructure, which has involved "a great investment effort for the port of Arrecife".

The work has not yet been officially received by this port authority, in whose administrative process they are working, but the Port Authority affirms that it has the permission of the construction company to carry out docking tests.

In this sense, the Port Authority of Las Palmas recalls that "access to the dock is limited to any person outside of port operations." The installation could not be inaugurated on these dates, according to the electoral regulations, which prohibits this type of act during the campaign.

Regarding the general traffic of cruise ships through the port of Arrecife, the forecasts estimate an 11 percent growth for the 2011-2012 season, according to this organization.
