The Fishermen's Association of La Graciosa and the sailors of Caleta de Sebo remembered this Saturday the figure of Marcos Páez in an act on the eighth island. There they paid tribute to him for being a man "very important in the improvements of the fishing sector" in La Graciosa, both when he was the town's skipper and as a Fishing Councilor of the Cabildo of Lanzarote.
The family of the deceased attended the emotional tribute and one of Marcos Páez's sons thanked this recognition with a heartfelt speech. With this act, Páez, who died in November 2009, was remembered for his work that allowed the conditioning of the port of La Graciosa, increasing the fishing shelter, expanding the mooring line, improving the slipway or providing cold storage to the port. In addition, his work allowed the start-up of the first sale and fish market or the dispensing of fuel in the Graciosa port.
The meeting, which had the support of the entire population of Caleta de Sebo, was carried out with the collaboration of the Teguise City Council, Cabildo of Lanzarote and Government of the Canary Islands. The first Island Corporation presented a Silver Crab to the Páez family.
The night featured the broadcast of the audiovisual "Marco Páez Morales, a man of the sea", which collects the work of this Graciosa native. The tribute song sung by the La Octava band, a musicalized poem by Inocencia Páez, as well as the reading dedicated to him by Carmen Páez Guadalupe, were also especially applauded.
