The Lanzarote Security and Emergency Consortium approved yesterday, unanimously, in a plenary session held in the Plenary Hall of the Cabildo, the budget for the year 2021, which amounts to a total amount of 6,165,283 euros.

The president of the Cabildo, M.ª Dolores Corujo, emphasizes that “the first Corporation has increased its budgetary allocation destined to the Security Consortium to face, with full guarantees, the extremely delicate situation we are currently experiencing.”

In this sense, the president of the Security and Emergency Consortium and councilor of the area, Francisco Javier Aparicio, describes this budget as “historic.” “The main variation with respect to last year's accounts”, adds the councilor, “is the increase by a total amount of one million euros of the annual contribution corresponding to the Cabildo of Lanzarote and an increase of 46,000 euros of the contribution of the Autonomous Community.”

The Security Consortium will allocate these increases, mainly, to meet the growing needs of this public entity, taking into account the times we are living as a result of the pandemic caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

In this sense, the Security councilor highlights as priority objectives of the Consortium, “to continue with the actions undertaken to face the health crisis caused by the coronavirus, as well as to develop new actions and support the different collaborating organizations in the security and protection of the citizens of Lanzarote and La Graciosa.”

With respect to the contributions of the seven island councils, these remain the same as in the past year, with the total contributions of the consortium entities being 5,686,625.06 euros.

As for the planned expenses of the Consortium, the largest amount is dedicated to chapter I, for personnel expenses, the amount of which is 3,168,375.56 euros, an amount that represents 51.39% of the total expenses of this entity. It should be noted that the Consortium has a staff of 47 officials from the Fire Department (1 sergeant, 11 corporals and 35 firefighters) and 16 positions for labor personnel (technician, administrative personnel and emergency agents).

Chapter II of current expenses and services amounts to 2,319,597.68 euros, which represents 37.62% of the total budgeted expenses. These expenses have been adapted to the reality of the needs that are currently being demanded.

Also in this year 2021, 623,309.76 euros will be allocated to investments destined to various items such as technical and communications material, equipment for information processing and transport elements.

“It is important to highlight also”, emphasizes Aparicio, “that at present there is no public debt to be amortized by the Consortium and that various contributions are planned that will be developed throughout the year through subsidies from the Cabildo and other public entities as support for various annual programs that are being executed with a continuous character.”
