The port of Arrecife has hosted this week the start of the Duque de Alba work in the Muelle de Naos, according to the Port Authority of Las Palmas, which states that, if everything goes as planned, the Lanzarote port area will be able to house cruise ships of great length of more than 260 meters at the cruise ship dock during the next 2019/2020 season.

The company Cyes Maritime Woks, awarded this project and which will execute the work for a budget of 853,753 euros and an execution period of eight months, has started this week the works to create a mooring point that will enable this operation, "which will positively impact the quality of services provided to shipping companies that until now were forced to operate in the Mármoles dock due to existing limitations to maneuver in the case of large vessels in the Naos dock", according to the Port Authority.

With this action, the aim is to "continue consolidating and expanding the portfolio of services" that the port of Arrecife offers "to the companies of this tourist sector in boom in the eastern Islands of the Canary Islands and, where, especially, in the capital Lanzarote, Arrecife is consolidating as a generating and indispensable engine of the local economy." Thus, of the 1,300,000 cruise passengers who arrived in Las Palmas in 2018, 423,116 cruise passengers did so to the Port of Arrecife.

With this action, the Port Authority of Las Palmas states that it ratifies its "commitment to the Port of Lanzarote and materializes its will to continue betting on improving the infrastructure and services provided there."
