The Sixth Chamber of the Provincial Court has rejected the appeal filed by the deputy mayor of Arrecife and then insular secretary of Coalición Canaria in Lanzarote, Echedey Eugenio, against the dismissal of the lawsuit he filed against the socialist spokesperson, Ariagona González, and which was dismissed by Investigating Court number 3 of ArrecifeThe failed lawsuit by Echedey Eugenio arose in response to the criticism of the socialist spokesperson in a talk show on *Radio Lanzarote-Onda Cero* regarding the "intolerable statements" made by the Coalition Canaria councilor in which he considered it a problem that his children and grandchildren shared classes with immigrant minors
González reproached those statements on a radio program and appealed to the responsibility of those who hold public office, pointing out that they should favor coexistence instead of inflaming tempers
"I never accused Echedey Eugenio of a crime, I made a political criticism in which I reaffirm myself. He could have apologized for statements unbecoming of a public office, but he chose to create an artificial and unfounded controversy. Now, the Court's pronouncement makes it clear that there was never a case, it was really an attempt to intimidate me," González stated.
The socialist councilor has expressed her satisfaction because the courts have made it clear that her actions did not involve any behavior deserving of criminal reproach, while stating: "If Echedey Eugenio or any of his colleagues think they are going to silence us with unfounded lawsuits, they are very mistaken. They will find us in front of them every time they meanly use immigration in exchange for a handful of votes. Those who hold public responsibilities must be careful with their statements and not contribute to generating xenophobia and racism," she concluded
