The Government of the Canary Islands has presented an award to the CEIP of Costa Teguise this Tuesday in recognition of its intercultural education project. The Minister of Education, Milagros Luis Brito, together with the General Director of Educational Promotion, Victoria González, were in charge of presenting these awards, which have also gone to the IES José Zerpa, in Vecindario; the CEIP El Fraile, in Arona; and the IES Feria del Atlántico, in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
This recognition is intended to highlight the center that has developed the most innovative and coherent intercultural education project with its educational project. To this end, special consideration has been given to "approaches that involve educational strategies that enhance the cultural enrichment of the entire educational community, taking advantage of the potential provided by the multicultural nature of the center".
The CEIP Costa Teguise, like the IES Feria del Atlántico in Las Palmas, has received the certification and the accrediting diploma of the second prize. The Government of the Canary Islands has highlighted the Lanzarote school's ability to involve the educational community in providing a joint response to its students, "regardless of their cultural background".
For its part, the institute of Las Palmas has valued the proposed activities and the coordinated work between the different departments, while the IES José Zerpa has highlighted the trajectory followed by the center and its coordinated work "for education in values." Likewise, the Government of the Canary Islands has indicated that this institute already received the certification and the accrediting diploma of recognition for the intercultural education project in the 2009-2010 academic year.
Likewise, the Ministry of Education has awarded the CEIP El Fraile for "the cultural variety that coexists in the center, the adequate response that is being given in an integrated manner, the activities planned and coordinated, as well as its trajectory in intercultural values education".
Since the 2003-04 academic year, the Government of the Canary Islands has been awarding these recognitions among the centers that develop educational projects of this type.
