The workers of Insercorsa, the company in charge of cleaning, maintenance and waste collection in Costa Teguise, have started an indefinite strike this Monday. However, to their surprise, according to Carmen Nieves from Intersindical Canaria, they have found that "the UCCT has sent operators to collect the waste."

"We have found UCCT operators collecting the garbage, when it is not their job and it is illegal," denounces Carmen Nieves from the union, who explains that the UCCT workers are in charge of "lighting and covering some holes, but not collecting the garbage, since Insercorsa is for that."

The cleaning, maintenance and waste collection workers have been on an indefinite strike since this Monday, due to "breaches" by the company of the labor agreement.

Delays and breaches

Among other things, Intersindical Canaria assures that the workers have been suffering continuous delays in the payment of their payrolls. Likewise, the union affirms that the company does not pay the amounts established in terms of the toxic, painful and dangerous bonus.

Intersindical Canaria also assures that the company fails to comply with the measures regarding safety and prevention of occupational hazards. In this sense, the union points out that "the collection trucks are in poor condition and highlights the lack of supplies, work tools and uniforms, as well as the lack of periodic monitoring of their health status. "The medical examinations required by law are not carried out according to the activity carried out", nor is "the vaccination program" complied with, according to the union.

Likewise, according to Intersindical Canaria, "the company has suppressed the correlative payments of union fees, deducted by payroll from some workers and not paid to the union organization", whose amount owed "is 128 euros". Intersindical Canaria also affirms that the company puts obstacles to workers holding meetings with the rest during working hours, not providing a place for it and not passing information to the workers' representatives in relation to dismissals, faults, changes in hours, shifts, etc."

On the other hand, Intersindical Canaria denounces that the workers were not informed of the change of company they suffered in March 2010, with the subrogation from Caseur to Insercorsa. In this sense, Intersindical Canaria understands that since it is a service of which the City Council and the UCCT are part, "a sequestration should have been carried out for breach of contract, if it exists", since Intersindical Canaria assures that it has been requested from both parties and "nothing has been delivered by the company."

Intersindical Canaria, which gave notice of strike a week ago, requests that the company correct, "in the shortest possible time", all the deficiencies and that it commit to the payment of salaries in the first five days of each month." Likewise, they request a meeting with those responsible for Insercorsa, the Union for the Conservation of Costa Teguise (UCCT) and the Teguise City Council. "Until now we have not had news from them," says Carmen Nieves from the union.
