Cleaning strike begins in Arrecife schools and UTG denounces Clusa for breaching the agreement

The workers of the company Clusa, in charge of cleaning the eleven schools of the capital of the Island, will begin this Wednesday, from 2:00 p.m., an indefinite strike, as confirmed by the general secretary of UGT in Lanzarote, César Reyes.

Although last week they reached a pre-agreement that stopped the strike, Reyes maintains that the company has not complied with what was agreed. And it is that it had until Friday, December 4 to pay the first payroll that was owed to them, but until this Wednesday the payment had not arrived.

"On Friday they called me to tell me that there was another problem, with the Canary Islands Treasury in this case, and that the payment was not going to be able to be made, and as we had announced, until all the arrears that exist at this time are paid, the strike will not be lifted," Reyes reports. In addition, now the workers would not accept a partial payment. "Due to the lack of word and the repeated breaches by the company, the strike will be stopped when all the delays are paid".

"We urge the Arrecife City Council urgently to either seize the service, or terminate the contract it has with this company until the month of May," says Reyes.

In Tías, deadline until the 19th

Regarding the municipality of Tías, the workers of the companies Salimpa and Rinca, also belonging to the CAS group, "have given a margin until December 19 for the November payrolls to be paid".

Despite the fact that last week, after a meeting in the Consistory of the municipality, the mayor himself, José Juan Cruz, assured that the call was still valid for December 6, the truth is that, "as the City Council has initiated the process of seizing the cleaning service, the workers of the companies have extended the deadline for the strike call by ten days," reports César Reyes.

Teguise and Tinajo join the call

The general secretary of UGT in Lanzarote also communicated to La Voz that the municipalities of Teguise and Tinajo have joined the call for an indefinite cleaning strike. "The workers of the company Camilo Álvarez, belonging to the same group and which carries out the cleaning of Teguise and Tinajo, are also calling a strike for the 19th due to the non-payment of wages." Thus, there are already four municipalities affected by the cleaning service strike, which in the capital begins this Wednesday indefinitely.
