The workers of Insercorsa, the company in charge of cleaning, maintenance and waste collection in Costa Teguise, have called an indefinite strike starting on November 14, according to reports from Intersindical Canaria. The stoppages respond to the "breach" by the company of the State Collective Agreement for Gardening, by which they are governed, and the Law on Prevention of Occupational Risks.
Among other things, Intersindical Canaria assures that the workers have been suffering "continuous delays" in the payment of salaries "until the 26th of the month". Likewise, the union affirms that the company does not pay the amounts established in terms of the toxic, arduous and dangerous bonus, being the amount of 11.86 euros per day per worker.
Intersindical Canaria also assures that the company fails to comply with the measures regarding safety and prevention of occupational hazards. In this sense, it points out that the collection trucks are in poor condition and highlights the lack of tools, work equipment and uniforms, as well as the lack of periodic monitoring of their health status. "The medical examinations required by law are not carried out according to the activity carried out," they point out in the statement, where they affirm that "the vaccination program" is not complied with either.
Non-payment of union dues
Also, according to the union, "the company has suppressed the correlative payments of union dues, deducted by payroll from some workers and not paid to the union organization". The amount owed as of October 2011, according to Intersindical Canaria, is 128 euros, for four months and four workers.
The union also affirms that the company prevents workers from holding meetings with the rest during working hours, not providing a place for it and not passing information to the workers' representatives in relation to dismissals, faults, changes in hours, shifts, etc."
Intersindical Canaria requests that the company correct, "in the shortest possible time", all the deficiencies and that it commits to the payment of salaries in the first five days of each month". They also request a meeting with those responsible for Insercorsa, the Union for the Conservation of Costa Teguise (UCCT) and the Teguise City Council.
Change of company
On the other hand, Intersindical Canaria denounces that the workers were not informed of the change of company they suffered in March 2010, with the subrogation from Caseur to Insercorsa. "As of the date of this pre-notice, such changes are still unknown and even the vehicles have the Caseur logo and the uniforms", they indicate.
In this sense, Intersindical Canaria understands that since it is a service of which the City Council and the UCCT are part, "a seizure should have been made for breach of contract, if it exists", since Intersindical Canaria assures that it has been requested from both parties and "nothing has been delivered by the company".
For all this, Intersindical Canaria expresses its "discomfort and disagreement" in the face of "the neglect of the company and of the administration and association itself", understanding "that so many hands are not necessary for said services". "The UCCT pays the company Insercorsa and the City Council contributes to the UCCT. Too many responsible for such poor management. The workers of Insercorsa comply with our work and only ask that the company comply", they conclude.
