The Civil Guard is asking the mayors of the island, as well as those of the rest of the Canary Islands, to close access to heavy vehicles to places where there may be crowds of citizens during the next Carnivals. This is to prevent attacks in concentrations of people like those that occurred in Nice or Berlin. This measure was already adopted in many cities in the Cavalcade of Kings or Christmas markets.

In this sense, the mayor of Tinajo, Jesús Machín, explained on Radio Lanzarote-Onda Cero that in the Security Board held last Monday, the Civil Guard conveyed the need to adopt that measure by carrying out the closure "not with fences, but physical barriers", that prevent the entry of vehicles with terrorist purposes. Machín was in favor of adopting this type of measure, pointing out that "security must be the priority".

The Civil Guard is requesting that not only this action be carried out, but that the security recommendations of the Ministry of the Interior corresponding to level 4 of anti-terrorist alert, currently in force, be followed. Level 4, on a scale of 5, corresponds to a "high risk".

The security forces have recalled that the protection measures are included in the anti-terrorist prevention and protection plan, aimed at protecting "facilities, networks, systems and physical equipment and information technology on which the operation of essential services rests". Another objective of this plan is to protect "public or official centers and organizations, as well as people, goods, services or information technologies" that are in them.
