The Tías City Council has completed the work of repairing the Playa Grande breakwater, in Puerto del Carmen, after being affected by the bad weather this winter.
The Consistory explains that it has invested a total of 19,014 euros from municipal coffers to "repair the deteriorated breakwater and finish off the foot of the slope with the contribution and placement of basalt blocks."
According to the mayor of Tías, José Juan Cruz, in mid-February they obtained authorization from the Canary Islands Coastal Demarcation for the occupation of the public maritime-terrestrial domain “with urgent works to protect the coastal front of the Playa Grande coastline, with repair of the breakwater in the Avenida de las Playas area.”
"Although the Coastal authorization period was two months, we have tried to carry out these works with the greatest possible speed and safety, something that we have achieved for the benefit of beach users and for the tourism sector of the municipality,” Cruz points out.
The authorization considerations indicate that, “due to the recent storms, it has been affected again, making it urgently necessary to repair it to prevent the wall from collapsing, and to avoid problems for beach users.”
