The deputy spokesperson for the Popular Parliamentary Group, Cristina Tavío, assured this Wednesday that the regional government still has not justified some 76.2 million euros corresponding to the rehabilitation of public housing, within the State Housing and Rehabilitation Plan 2009-2012, within which the projects for the houses of Valterra and Titerroy should have been carried out.

In the case of the Arrecife projects, the Ministry of Development already confirmed at the end of 2012 that it had transferred more than 2 million euros to the Canary Islands Government for the rehabilitation of these homes, without the works having started.

According to the PP, the fact that the regional Executive does not justify the 76 million received for the archipelago "is blocking any action corresponding to the new Plan, and what is worse, prevents us from participating in new funds from the Ministry of Development." The popular denounce that "President Rivero and his counselor Inés Rojas, have been exercising powers in housing matters in the islands for seven years, and since then they have not moved a stone for at least fifteen public promotions that are in very poor condition in Tenerife, Gran Canaria and Lanzarote, but they have known very well how to scare the Canarians with false cuts."

"He just says that Madrid mistreats us"

In Tavío's opinion, "the balance of application of the Plan could not be more disastrous, since this Government neither justifies nor executes the State funds for the renovation of public housing, which prevents the generation of employment and business activity in the construction sector and, what is worse, is depriving Canarians of access to aid for the rehabilitation of their homes."

"While the Government of the Nation deposits the money on time, the Ministry of Housing is limited to putting up the construction sign and saying that Madrid mistreats us, and this has happened with at least 11 projects in Santa Cruz de Tenerife and another two in Arrecife, to cite just a few examples," remarked the popular deputy, who calculated that only in the La Candelaria neighborhood, in the capital of Tenerife, 11 million in public investment and 150 direct jobs could have been lost.

Cristina Tavío concluded by reminding the Government that the Ministry of Development "will not be able to contribute new funds until these 76.2 million pending are justified," and recalled that the situation in the field of private housing rehabilitation "reflects the same incompetence, since not even an adequate computer system has been planned to present the projects, and throughout the archipelago only 400,000 euros have been allocated since 2009."
