The Minister of Economy, Knowledge and Employment of the Government of the Canary Islands, Elena Máñez, visited the Cabildo of Lanzarote this Monday and, among other things, announced that La Graciosa will have the extension of ultra-fast broadband within a year. In addition, she defended "the investment commitment of the autonomous department to the non-capital territories most affected by the crisis caused by Covid-19, such as Lanzarote and La Graciosa".
"These islands will benefit from active labor market policies worth 6.5 million euros for the hiring of 538 unemployed people during 2021, the granting of 1.4 million in 208 grants to both small and medium-sized companies and self-employed workers from the 2,342 applications received, or the extension of ultra-fast broadband in La Graciosa for one year with a budget of 1.2 million", they emphasize from the Cabildo after the meeting.
“Within the strategic projects of the Canary Islands Agency for Research, Innovation and the Information Society, we are going to extend that broadband to La Graciosa, because if we talk about generating economy and diversifying activity, we also have to have the necessary infrastructures available for a real connection in all parts of the territory, including our eighth island, so we are working on the development of technology and innovation with the Lanzarote Cabildo and with the business fabric of an island with both tourist and environmental value, of sustainability”, Elena Máñez stressed.

For her part, the president of the Cabildo, María Dolores Corujo, highlighted “the firm commitment of the progressive Government of the Canary Islands to small and medium-sized companies, families and remote territories, such as the island of La Graciosa, to try to alleviate the economic and social crisis unleashed by the pandemic.”
Along with the minister and the president of the Cabildo, other members of the island's government group also participated in the meeting, as well as the Deputy Minister of Economy and Internationalization, Blas Acosta, the director of the Canarian Employment Service (SCE), Dunnia Rodríguez, and the director of the Aciisi, Carlos Navarro.
