The Cabildo of Lanzarote has approved a new contribution of 500,000 euros to finance the Canarian Resident pass, a measure that will benefit bus users.

The contribution is articulated through a collaboration agreement with the concessionaire company Arrecife Bus S.L., destined to lower the price of the bus through a pass that for 20 euros per month allows unlimited use of the intercity transport service.

The Minister of Transport, Marcos Bergaz, explains that this initiative "aims to lower the final price of the ticket for Canarian residents, who frequently use the regular intercity public transport lines of Lanzarote." With this agreement, "we contribute to citizens using public transport, which translates into a reduction of the carbon footprint and a further step towards sustainability," Bergaz details.

The pass card, with an issuance cost of 2 euros, is rechargeable monthly for an amount of 20 euros and has an unlimited number of trips on the Intercity Transport of Lanzarote, but does not allow the payment of multiple travelers with the same pass.

Those interested in acquiring this card can do so at the Arrecife Bus Station, at the Arrecife Bus Interchange Office or on the official website of Arrecife Bus, S.L., although Bergaz, has anticipated that "we are working to expand the points of issuance and renewal of the Canarian Resident pass to bring the service closer to the demand of our users".

For her part, the president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, María Dolores Corujo, points out that "in 2021, 1,405,329.60 euros were allocated to the pass". "We support aid to public transport and promote the pass policy to collaborate with people who choose this means daily," Corujo points out.

In addition, she emphasizes that it is a transport service that is already at a similar number of travelers to those before the pandemic, since "in the first quarter of 2022 there were a total of 1,160,760 travelers compared to 1,257,631 for the same period of the year 2019".

Finally, the president recalls that "the Cabildo of Lanzarote collaborates with other types of passes, with significant discounts and various types, such as the Disability Pass and the Student Pass, with 50%, and the Special Pensioner Pass, with 60%, or the Large Family, Unemployed, Youth and Pensioner passes, which receive a 30% discount".
