The Cabildo of Lanzarote published this Monday the official announcement of the tender for the "Improvement of the General Island Supply Network", which will involve an investment of almost 900,000 euros by the Island Water Council, as included in the Investment Plan approved in June, amounting to 1.5 million euros.

The latter body entrusted the First Institution with the management to process the administrative file of this process, which consists of the award and subsequent execution of three phases that foresee the replacement and repair of the most deteriorated sections that present a greater number of breakdowns per linear meter.

Each phase is budgeted at 298,000 euros. The first includes actions in the municipality of Arrecife, San Bartolomé and Tinajo. In total, work will be carried out on 1,943.56 linear meters of the network located in these municipalities and within a maximum period of 120 days.

The second phase will address improvements on 3,468 linear meters of the municipalities of San Bartolomé, Haría, Teguise and Tinajo. The execution period is six months.

Finally, the third phase responds to the actions designed for Tías, Yaiza and Teguise. The aim is to act on at least ten streets, which together total more than 2,800 linear meters. In this case, the execution period is also six months.

Annual savings of 137,000 euros

According to the estimated calculations made by the technicians of Insular de Aguas de Lanzarote, and based on the replacement of pipes carried out so far, once these works are executed, "the annual savings would be approximately 137,000 euros and 264,009 cubic meters of water".

The president of the Cabildo, Pedro San Ginés, highlights that with this initiative, "the improvements in networks that we undertook three years ago by all the institutions continue: Cabildo, Water Consortium and Island Water Council". He also adds that although the Council "is not directly responsible, it approved unanimously by all its members and at the proposal of this Presidency to allocate funds to these investments that are urgent and necessary, given the situation of water emergency in which the island is located".
