The Cabildo of Lanzarote has put out to public tender the construction of 17 warehouses to improve the work tools and infrastructure of the island's fishing sector. Specifically, this project will provide the Port of Naos in Arrecife with 16 storage rooms and a building specially equipped for the manufacture and conservation of ice for the fishermen of the area.
The president of the island's Cabildo, María Dolores Corujo, emphasizes "the need to work to improve the conditions of a sector that has been highly punished in recent times and is as traditional for Lanzarote as fishing", so that "the current situation of the sector has been studied and the lack of spaces for storing fishing gear near the port has been detected, as well as the lack of ice as a necessary raw material to carry out the activity on a daily basis."
In this line, the island's Fisheries Councilor, Ángel Vázquez, details that the 16 storage rooms and the ice warehouse will be located on the Naos dock and "will involve an investment of 229,995.60 euros (excluding taxes), with the execution period for these works being three months from the award of the same."
The Fisheries Councilor also states that "this work responds to a historical demand of the fishermen of Arrecife who have been asking for years for the improvement of infrastructure to develop their work in optimal conditions."
