The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote and Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, María Dolores Corujo, held a meeting this Wednesday with farmers, winegrowers and agricultural workers of the Island to "bring positions closer" and transfer the "firm commitment of the Island Institution" to end the problem of water in the sector.

In a statement, the president explains that she wanted to hold this meeting "in view of the complicated situation of the primary sector, hit by the crisis derived from the pandemic and the scarcity of rain during the last year, to listen to their concerns and address the main difficulties they face."

“At the beginning of February, aid will be granted for a value of one million euros for the production and conservation of the vineyard, aimed at alleviating the consequences of the pandemic and the drought”, the president advanced.

Likewise, Dolores Corujo reported that this Tuesday the application period began for a subsidy aimed at reducing the price of water for the primary sector, both for agricultural water and for the fishing sector of the Island. These may be submitted to the Registry of Entry of the Area of Agriculture and Livestock of the Cabildo of Lanzarote until March 31.

“With these two actions already in force, and other measures that we intend to articulate from the Island Institution, we will try to provide a solution to the main problems of a fundamental sector for the functioning of the island's economy and that has been neglected in recent years, making said neglect more evident in this stage of the pandemic”, the president pointed out.

On the other hand, the island director of Territory, Environment and Agriculture of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Alicia Concepción, who attended the meeting telematically, announced the celebration of different training workshops that she herself will teach to the primary sector. These workshops, which will be detailed in a few weeks, will focus on legislative changes that affect the sector.
