The Cabildo of Lanzarote has ratified its support for the Carnival after the meeting held in the Plenary Hall with representatives of murgas, comparsas, drags and floats

During the meeting, the president Oswaldo Betancort, the Minister of Culture, Jesús Machín, and the CEO of the Art, Culture and Tourism Centers, Ángel Vázquez, detailed the agreement reached, which guarantees stable funding for the groups throughout the legislature and opens new avenues to promote the presence of the Carnival in other territories.

In this sense, Oswaldo Betancort, expressed his satisfaction with the result of the meeting. “We have agreed on financial aid for the entire Carnival family of Lanzarote: adult and children's murgas, comparsas, drags and floats, resolving the least romantic, but fundamental, part, which is financing. It was a necessity and we have fulfilled our commitment.”

In addition, Betancort highlighted the importance of this economic support and its impact on the festival. “Our objective”, he pointed out, “is to continue positioning our Carnival at the highest level. For this reason, we have worked on clear bases that regulate the amounts allocated to each group, guaranteeing that this support will be maintained throughout the legislature.”

In addition to guaranteeing financial support to the groups, the Cabildo has committed to supporting the projection of the Lanzarote Carnival beyond the island, facilitating its presence in events and celebrations in Tenerife and Gran Canaria

In this regard, the CEO of the CACT, Ángel Vázquez, stated that “Carnival is not only a local celebration, but a cultural manifestation with great tourist appeal. From the Tourist Centers we are committed to reinforcing its visibility, not only within Lanzarote, but also projecting it beyond our borders to consolidate it as a benchmark event.”

For his part, the Minister of Culture, Jesús Machín, highlighted that “we have always had the involvement and effort of the carnival groups, and this meeting is one more example of our commitment to continue improving our Carnival.”

Commitment to the Casa del Carnaval in Arrecife

The meeting also addressed the initiative promoted by the Deputy Mayor of Arrecife, Echedey Eugenio, for the creation of the Casa del Carnaval, a space that would serve to preserve the history of this festivity and promote its development throughout the year. The Cabildo has shown total willingness to collaborate in this project, with the aim of providing the Carnival with a reference space within the island's cultural scene.
