The Cabildo of Lanzarote, through the Department of Education headed by Ascensión Toledo, will begin the payment of study grants and travel assistance corresponding to the 2024/2025 academic year. These benefits are aimed at more than 1,900 students who are studying outside of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, with an investment of 1.3 million euros.
The president of the corporation, Oswaldo Betancort, highlights the importance of investing in quality education for the youth of Lanzarote, as the basis of their academic and professional future. “At the Cabildo we are aware of the effort families make to guarantee the training of their children, and therefore we defend equal opportunities,” he stresses.
For her part, the head of the Area, Ascensión Toledo, emphasizes the increase in the income bracket of 2% that favors aid and economic support to families. “The young people of Lanzarote and La Graciosa have the support of their institutions, which thus demonstrate their firm commitment to education,” she stressed.
A total of 1,998 favorable applications will benefit from this payment, 473 scholarships and 1,525 travel grants, whose main objective is to guarantee equal opportunities for young people.
Increase in the number of scholarships and travel grants
In comparison with the 2023/2024 academic year, the Cabildo of Lanzarote has increased the amount in various modalities of study grants, compensatory housing, as well as mobility programs, benefiting 157 more students, awarding 672,120 euros. This data demonstrates that a budget execution of 97.86% has been carried out, with an increase of 37.3%
With regard to travel assistance, during the previous year 1,279 were awarded with a total budget of 511,600 euros. Currently, this figure has been expanded, allocating resources for a total of 1,525 students, with a budget of 600,000 euros.
In this way, the first Institution reinforces its commitment to education, increasing the number of scholarships and aid, reaching 400 new beneficiaries.
