The Cabildo of Lanzarote has initiated a new file for the declaration of Asset of Cultural Interest (BIC), this time on the Casa-Museo del Campesino and Monument to Fertility, which will be framed in the monument category.
The decree of the Department of Historical Heritage, dated March 21, has been published this Monday in the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands (BOC), which also presents the technical and legal reports that support the initiation of this procedure.
Both properties will have full protection from the beginning of the procedure, as if they had already been declared BIC, so they are "shielded against possible interventions that distort their values, allowing conservation, restoration, consolidation and conditioning interventions," the report states.
"The Casa-Museo del Campesino and Monument to Fertility is one of the most relevant architectural works of César Manrique's spatial work, bringing together outstanding architectural and artistic heritage values," the writing adds.
It should be noted that this is not the first time that a BIC file has been initiated on the Monumento al Campesino, as another was opened in 2003, although it expired without being completed.
This file adds to those already initiated by the Cabildo in recent months, which affect several interventions by Manrique, such as Los Jameos del Agua and its auditorium, the El Diablo de Timanfaya restaurant, the headquarters of the Foundation that bears his name and what was his house in Haría. In addition, the process has also begun to declare the Church of San Marcial as an Asset of Cultural Interest and three properties located on Calle Real in Arrecife: the old Hotel Oriental, El Mercadillo and the building that housed the Tamaragua store.
